In this essay, Pablo Neruda (Literature Nobel Prize, 1971) describes his love of words and of the Spanish language. The end of essay is unexpected: a metaphorical view of conquerors and the conquered through the medium of language. The Spanish may have taken the gold, but they left 'gold' too, in the form of their language.
